Project details

After the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) - Geneva 2003, Tunis 2005 - evaluation meetings are held once a year in Geneva.

ICVolunteers has been very active during both the first and second phase of the WSIS, as the focal point of the WSIS Volunteer Family (bringing together volunteer organizations involved in the Summit). Today, ICVolunteers remains active in particular with regards to the Action Line C8, focusing on linguistic and cultural diversity. UNESCO organized a meeting around this topic on 24 May 2007 at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) headquarters.

The meeting was opened by Mr Abdul Walheed Khan, UNESCO's Assistant Director General for Communication and Information, and chaired by Mr Mauro Rosi, C8 focal point for UNESCO, assisted by Daniel Prado (Union Latina - Deputy Secretary General of the Maaya network) and Simao Campos Neto (ITU). ICVolunteers represented the secretariat of the Maaya network - the World Network for Linguistic Diversity - in the meeting. Ms Viola Krebs, Executive Director of ICVolunteers, together with Mr Prado of Union Latine, presented Maaya, its current and future activities.

The main objective of this second consultation meeting was to organize the future joint work of the multi-stakeholders C8 team, by identifying the moderators in charge of the different sub-themes for the next future. The meeting also focused on information exchange on the activities undertaken during the last year and on the online collaboration platform developed by UNESCO as the C8 facilitator to help progress the action line's activities.
